Chuck Wells, captured on video!

...and we’re back with more on Chuck Wells, whom we located in Greensboro, North Carolina over the summer. Mr. Wells moved there in the early 1970s and got into gospel, leaving behind the active role that he played in the Eastern North Carolina r&b and soul scene as a keyboardist and singer with a variety of groups such as the Monitors (Greenville/Wilson), the Outcasters (Wilson), and Willie Ward and the Electras (Enfield/Rocky Mount).

In September, we filmed Mr. Wells performing his late-1960s release “The Love Knot.” Check out the video and also hear an mp3 of the original below.

He is amazing! I heard a remake of this on the Griffy James album that came out in 2008.  This version is much better.

This is a true gem. The love knot only to be found on 45, obscure low-res compilations and in genuine live mode by Chuck Wells himself! Get him on stage again like Syl Johnson did at the Eccentric Soul Revue! And is there more from mr Wells (sixties 45s as well as ‘live’ material)?

I played with willie ward & the electras, Chuck
was great. I was the only white person in the band
I was living in Rocky Mount NC at that time. I lost contact with them through the years. this is has made my day. I was 16 yrs. old then. I will try to look chuck up when I come home again. have
family that lives in Greensboro. I was born in
Henderson NC. i sure would like to see him again.
some the best times of my life. I am now 63. have lived in Florida for over 40 years. I pastor a church here & also play in church. thanks Joe
